The One with Surgery No. Seven!

Happy Monday friends! I am writing to you from my hospital room. I was pre-admitted today for my Open Heart Surgery on Wednesday, September 11th. The reason for the pre-admission is due to my requiring blood thinners. I had to go off Eliquis on Friday, so they admitted me today to put me on a heparin drip as a precaution. I am not thrilled about having to stay here two nights before I even have surgery, but such is life. BTW, I absolutely hate hospitals.

Surgery is planned for first thing in the morning on Wednesday. I will be in the ICU for a few days and then in the step-down unit for a few days. This is going to be my hardest surgery to date, but I am in fight mode and ready to get on the other side of this! The surgeon is optimistic that he can remove the tumor and resect the tissue around it. They also plan to send the tumor off to have sequencing completed on it to see if I can find a targeted treatment to use to get rid of this once and for all.

The One with All the Love

Although this was a setback we were unprepared for, a lot of beauty and love has come our way because of it. We are blessed to live in a neighborhood with the kindest humans on the planet. They have surrounded us with so much love, support, and generosity. A couple of weeks ago they surprised me with a driveway get-together that included an incredible meal, drinks, and lots of laughs. Just what my heart needed.

I was gifted with incredibly beautiful and delicious Friends-themed cookies from a neighbor's daughter. They are SPECTACULAR!! Yesterday, I had a surprise chalk attack on our driveway and sidewalk with inspirational quotes and messages of encouragement. Finally, a group of neighbors showed up later in the evening with a care package for us that included so many useful items as well as a stack of gift cards to help keep everyone fed. I was a little down yesterday because I'm sad about being away from my boys and missing Jackson's soccer games this week and next. The fact that they went out of their way to make me feel so loved and special boosted my fight mode into high gear. What were once neighbors have turned into dear friends and family. We do not know where we would be without this community of amazing individuals. They have been so kind and generous to us. We are so lucky to have them! ❤

My sweet neighbor even started a Meal Train for us so we don't have to worry about meals when I get home. I truly don't know what I would do without these kind people. https://mealtrain.com/o9qdg4

Even my hometown had a business sponsor a banner supporting the hospital network's Path to the Cure event. Check out the banner they hung in my honor!

That's pretty much all I have for now! Sitting here in my room with a beautiful view of the parking garage waiting for Wednesday. I'm ready for the surgery to be over so I can start healing!!!! Please pray for my boys because this has been hard on them. As always, thank you for following along on what seems to be a never-ending fight. But we will FIGHT ON!!

Love,

Cort
